About the NHS Psychometric Tests
~7 min read · Updated April 2026
Our NHS Psychometric practice covers the kinds of assessments candidates see during NHS recruitment — numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, situational judgement, logical reasoning and workplace scenario questions.
Questions are independent practice-style only. The exact tests vary by NHS trust, role and supplier (for example SHL, Saville, Talogy). Always check the assessment information in your application invitation.
What revision typically covers
Numerical reasoning with tables and charts, verbal reasoning passages, NHS-style situational judgement scenarios mapped to the NHS People Promise, logical and inductive reasoning patterns, basic accuracy and data checking.
How candidates usually prepare
Practise timed mock papers daily for 1–2 weeks, review every wrong answer, and read the NHS Constitution and NHS Values so situational judgement choices feel natural. The day before, focus on rest, not new questions.
